The Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO), located in DeLand, FL provides a wide range of patrol and criminal investigative services out of district offices in Daytona Beach, DeBary, Deltona, DeLand, Ormond Beach and New Smyrna Beach, with substations in Pierson and Oak Hill and a centrally located Investigative Services Section. VSO was looking for a new ABIS (Automated Biometric Identification System) that would provide greater efficiency for their latent print unit with state-of-the-art fingerprinting searches, analysis, comparison, and documentation. They chose IDEMIA STORM ABIS as their solution, becoming the first law enforcement agency in the nation to implement a cloud-native ABIS that can search county, state, and federal databases from a single application.
STORM ABIS, an intuitive, web-based platform supports local and national searches with tools for analysis, comparison and case management that allows fingerprint examiners to efficiently complete examinations from anywhere. With user experience as a design priority, the system enhances collaboration while reducing the learning curve for examiners, which cuts training time and costs for agencies.
This case study shows how the use of this technology increased efficiency for the VSO latent print unit while decreasing their case backlog.
