For the U.S. Government, no priority is more imperative than providing the highest-quality care to our nation’s Veterans. As the largest integrated healthcare network in the United States, this falls under the remit of the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This March, the White House released its 2025 fiscal year budget for the U.S. government, and supporting the VA remains a focal point of the government's budget. In 2024 the White House is requesting $152.3 billion for VA, which represents a 10% increase from 2023. This includes $129.3 billion in discretionary budget and $24.5 billion in mandatory budget authority provided by the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 (FRA) for the Cost of War Toxic Exposures Fund (TEF) in 2025.
For the VA in the next fiscal year, the White House lists investing in world-class healthcare, prioritizing mental health initiatives including suicide prevention programs, and improving delivery of benefits as some of its top priorities. In this report we will look specifically at the budget initiatives intended for improving VA healthcare capabilities.
For more information on VA initiatives such as improving its electronic health record system, offering new services in mental health, and much more, be sure to register for IDGA’s VA Healthcare Summit this July 23-24 in Washington, DC. This year’s event will bring together individuals across the military, government, private and non-profit healthcare sector, academia and consultant communities for discussions on all topics related to VA healthcare.
