As we enter into the age of Multi-Domain Operations, the next generation of combat vehicles must be nothing short of revolutionary to ensure continued military dominance in an expanding, increasingly lethal and contested battlefield environment. Afterall, the future of warfare will be shaped by technical innovation rather than sheer destructive force.

With that in mind, Army leaders created the Next Generation Combat Vehicle (NGCV) program in 2018 to develop a suite of modern, cutting-edge manned and unmanned combat vehicles to replace its existing, capable but outdated fleet. However, things did not necessarily go as planned. Following the highly publicized cancellation of the OMFV Bradley replacement in January 2020, the DoD completely re-imagined its development/acquisition approach to maximize agility, collaboration and cost-effectiveness. As our opening keynote, Lt. Gen. James Pasquarette , explained, “This strategy is an approach the Army must take to harness the power of innovation of worldwide industry partners, drive new ideas through competition and produce a new infantry combat vehicle that Soldiers must have to fight and win against a near-peer threat in the future.”

At the 2020 Future Ground Combat Vehicles Online Event, we invited 8 experts to discuss how the DoD is transforming its approach to developing it’s next generation of ground combat vehicles and what these shifts mean for key industry players. From recent program updates to long-term strategic objectives to major engineering challenges, no stone was left uncovered.
