Dr. Tamara M. Campbell, MD, PsyD, DFAPA has been appointed as the Executive Director of the VHA Office of Mental Health since December 2022. In this capacity, she is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the operational integrity of VHA programs that afford Veterans access to a comprehensive continuum of integrated mental health care. Dr. Campbell's oversight extends to all facets of executive leadership, encompassing the Deputy Executive Director, Continuum of Care, Field Support and Analytics, and Budget, with the aim of ensuring sustained optimal access to a diverse array of services designed to bolster mental health wellness and resilience for our Veterans, their families, and caregivers. These services include provision for same‐day services addressing emergent needs, sustained access to services supporting wellness, and the provision of web-based resources tailored for Veterans, family members, and community partners.
Dr. Campbell is a United States Air Force veteran. She earned her Medical Degree and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Wright State University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Wittenberg University. Dr. Campbell completed her Clinical Psychology Internship at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and her General Psychiatry Residency at the University Hospitals Cincinnati, Ohio, where she served as Chief Resident. She underwent advanced training in Hypnotherapy at the Menninger Clinic and is certified in Advanced Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute. Additionally, she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc., and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Campbell currently serves as the Ohio representative to the American Psychiatric Association General Assembly.
