Deputy Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Support Department of Veterans Affairs

Dr. Ronald (Ron) Miller was appointed as the Deputy Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Support in March 2023. In this role, he serves as the principal advisor to the Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Support on VHA’s Healthcare Environment and Facilities Programs, Procurement and Logistics, Healthcare Technology Management, Veterans Canteen Service, and the VA Logistics Redesign Program. Prior to joining the Veterans Health Administration, he was with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), serving as the Senior Advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Resource Management, where he provided guidance and support for Departmental and ASPR priorities, including interagency collaboration, logistics, information technology, contracting and business operations. In addition, from 2015 to 2019, he served as the Director for the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS), which responded globally to provide medical support to those affected by natural and man-made disasters. Ron is a U.S. Army veteran. He received his bachelor’s degree from Chaminade University, his master's degree from the University of Maryland, and his doctorate from the University of Phoenix. He is also a graduate of Harvard University’s National Preparedness Leadership Initiative and the Federal Executive Institute. He has an Executive Change Management certification from Cornell University and Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act Certifications in Program Management and Contracting Officer Representative.

11:30 AM PANEL DISCUSSION: IMPLICATIONS OF FMBT FOR VETERAN CARE

The panel will discuss how VA is modernizing and integrating its financial and acquisition environments through the Financial Management Business Transformation (FMBT) program and its deployment of the Integrated Financial and Acquisition Management System (iFAMS). This is the largest transformation effort in VA history and represents a comprehensive improvement in business processes, decision-making, and services, which will in turn enhance the Veteran experience. The panel will also discuss how FMBT collaborates with VA’s Supply Chain Modernization initiative to avoid impacts to patient care and delivery of services
