Amanda Doreson is a senior public health analyst in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer at the Substance Use and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA). As such, she engages with federal, state, and local organizations to improve behavioral healthcare and promote equitable practices to address opioid use disorder. Her work includes communication, program development, and policy coordination in support of SAMHSA’s mission to protect behavioral health. Prior to joining SAMSA, Amanda was a behavioral scientist in the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) where she developed evidence-based interventions to help prevent HIV. Before that, her work included research and evaluation at the New York City Department of Mental Health and Hygiene and advocacy in the public health nonprofit space. Amanda holds an MPA in public policy from New York University and is currently a doctoral candidate in public health at Johns Hopkins University, focusing on implementation science in behavioral health.
