FOCUS DAY: COMMERCIAL AVIATION | GAMING | GEOSPATIAL INTELLIGENCE
8:00 am - 8:50 am REGISTRATION & COFFEE
8:50 am - 9:00 am CHAIRPERSON’S WELCOMING REMARKS
Jim Blake
Former Program Executive Officer | PEO STRICHAIRMAN | Synthetic and Simulation Training
9:00 am - 10:15 am How Virtual Reality is Poised to Change the Aviation Industry
The commercial aviation industry uses virtual and augmented reality for a handful of critical tasks. From aircraft maintenance, to inspection and cabin crew
training, to finally piloting a plane, virtual reality can teach personnel how to handle a realistic yet dangerous situation in a safe manner.
• A cross sector perspective on Delta’s Full Flight Simulator (FFS), air carrier training, and Flight Training Devices (FTD)
• New implementation and advancement to new pilot training models such as upgrades in mixed reality, augmented reality, and virtual reality
• Systems and processes associated with Delta’s Advanced Qualification Program (AQP), pilot training curricula and courseware
10:15 am - 10:45 am MORNING REFRESHMENT BREAK
10:30 am - 11:30 am The Power of Augmented and Virtual Reality: Insight from Leading Academia on Gaming
Orlando’s University of Central Florida has become a hub and vital partner for the U.S. Army Synthetic Training Environment Cross Functional Team. Within the
university, the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy is integrating popular commercial technologies with simulation and education.
• How Universities are integrating current commercial gaming technologies with simulation and education
• Partnering with academia to faster deliver better training and technical solutions
• Exploring new gaming methods to produce more accurate requirements

11:30 am - 11:45 am FORTS USA DEMO
11:45 am - 12:45 pm LUNCH
12:45 pm - 1:45 pm Foundation GEOINT: Supporting and Enhancing 3D Synthetic Environmental Requirements
Our soldiers need an accurate representation of roads, trees, and buildings. Three-dimensional imaging is needed to understand terrain relief, 3D models of
natural and man made features, 3D models of vehicles, the ocean surface and the ocean bottom.
• Advancing mapping, charting, and geodesy components such as surveying, elevation and gravity modeling
• Embracing more collaborative approaches to Foundation GEOINT mapping and leveraging automation

As an Internationally recognized research institute the UCF IST is dedicated to advancing human centered modeling and simulation technology with an additional focus on training and education. Earlier this year the U.S. Army’s Synthetic Training Environment Cross Functional Team entered into a long standing partnership with UCF in order to collaborate on the development of state-of-the-art technology to bring together virtual and real-world environments to better prepare and protect soldiers.
Join IDGA on this unique tour of the Institute for Simulation and Training UCF to get a first hand glimpse into how the IST is working alongside and supporting the STE CFT and how the IST is training students and working on virtual systems and initiatives that correlate to the Army’s Synthetic Training Environment (STE) needs.
