Senior Battery Advisor, Industrial Base Policy Office Office of the Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy

Mr. Eric Shields is the Senior Battery Advisor in the Industrial Base Policy office in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He formerly held the position of Department of Navy’s Deputy Director for Operational Energy and has led operational energy and lithium battery safety efforts for the Navy and Marine Corps at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock. Mr. Shields was a founding member of the Federal Consortium for Advanced Batteries, the author of the DoD Lithium Battery Strategy 2023-2030, and the chair of the Defense Advanced Battery Working Group. Mr. Shields holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland.
