Product Manager, Range Training Systems, Project Manager Training Systems Marine Corps Systems Command

Lieutenant Colonel Rory M. Hermann Jr is a Florida native and graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from Stetson University in 2005. After attending Officer’s Candidate School, he was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps in 2006. In 2007, he attended The Basic School and the Basic Communications Officer Course.

From 2008 to 2009, LtCol Hermann was assigned to the Third Marine Logistics Group in Okinawa, Japan. He served as the Data Platoon Commander, Communications Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 37 and Information Management Officer for Headquarters, 3D MLG before deploying to Ar Ramadi, Iraq as the Senior Watch Officer for Combat Logistics Battalion 4 from 2008 to 2009 in support of troop withdrawal.

In 2009, LtCol Hermann reported to Marine Corps Systems Command where he was assigned as a Project Officer in Product Management Team Technology Transitions, Program Management Office Marine Air Ground Task Force Command and Control Systems. He managed the Secure Communications Controller, Broadband Mesh-able Data Link, and the Digital Battle Management Application. He also provided information assurance support to the Mobile Modular Command and Control during its transition from an Urgent Universal Needs Statement to the Networking On-The-Move Program.

From 2012 to 2015 LtCol Hermann was assigned to the I Marine Expeditionary Force G-6 as the Amphibious Communications Officer. In 2013, he deployed to Afghanistan as the Senior Advisor to the 215 Corps Signals Battalion of the Afghan National Army.

From 2015 to 2017, LtCol Hermann was assigned to the Computer and Information Systems Division of Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, GA as the Base Information Assurance Manager. During the same time, LtCol Hermann received his Master of Science in Cybersecurity from Utica College. From 2017 to 2019, LtCol Hermann was assigned as the Marine Air-Ground Task Force Logistics Support System Team Lead within Product Management Logistics Information Systems, PMW 230 Global Combat Support System – Marine Corps. His team managed Combat Logistics Command and Control System, Transportation Capacity Planning Tool, and the Storage Retrieval Automated Tracking Information System.

In 2019, LtCol Hermann was assigned as the S-6, 8th Marine Regiment, 2D Marine Division, before being reassigned to Task Force Southwest, deploying to Afghanistan as the Assistant Chief of Staff J-6. In 2020, LtCol Hermann returned to 8th Marine Regiment where he supported divestment and deactivation efforts. After deactivating the regiment, he was assigned as the S-6 of the Marine Raider Training Center.

In June 2021, LtCol Hermann became the Team Lead for Fire Direction and Naval Fires C2 in PM Long Range Fires of Portfolio Management Office Ground Combat Element Systems. His team managed the Marine Corps’ portion of the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System, the Mobile Command Vehicle, and the Multiple Launch Rocket Systems Family of Munitions Launch Unit.

In January 2023, LtCol Hermann assumed his current role as the Product Manager for Range Training Systems, where his team oversees the procurement of all Marine Corps ranges, targetry, and live force-on-force training equipment.

LtCol Hermann’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4th award), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd Award).

LtCol Hermann is married to the former Stephanie Elowsky of Pensacola, FL and has three children, son Matthew and daughters Erika and Natalie.
