Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Kinneer, a native of Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, started his military career at Valley Forge Military Academy and was commissioned an Infantry Second Lieutenant on May 12th, 2003. He was assigned to E Co, 2-112th, 56 SBCT, as the Brigade converted from an HBCT to an SBCT. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Sociology in 2005.
During his time as a student at Penn State, he served as an Anti-Tank Platoon Leader, then company Executive Officer of D 112 Anti-Tank. He was then assigned as Executive Officer, C Company 2-112th, 56 SBCT from 2007-2008. In 2008, he was selected to command HHC, 2-112, 56 SBCT as they prepared to deploy to Iraq.
As a company commander, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 09-11 from 2008-2009, where he commanded Hawkeye Company (HHC), 2-112th, 56 SBCT in Abu Ghraib and Nasr Wal Salam, Iraq. Upon demobilization and redeployment back to his home station, he was selected to serve as the S3 Air Operations Officer at 2-112th in 2010.
During his service within 2-112th, he served at the national level as a Manpower Analyst, Army National Guard G1, from 2006 to 2011 at the National Guard Bureau, Arlington VA. He assumed duties as the Battalion S3 in 2-112th, 56 SBCT in 2012, and upon successful completion of those duties, was assigned as the Battalion Executive Officer from 2014-2016.
As the Battalion S3 and XO, he also served as the Pennsylvania National Guard, JFHQ State Simulations Officer, facilitating live, virtual, and constructive training exercises at Ft. Indiantown Gap (FTIG) from 2011 to 2014.
In 2014, he was assigned as the Range Operations Officer at FTIG, responsible for all ranges, training areas, and facilities. He served as the Range Officer from 2014 to 2016. In 2016, he was selected as the Pennsylvania National Guard Bilateral Affairs Officer for Lithuania and served in that position at the US Embassy in Vilnius, Lithuania, for over three years. Following his service overseas, LTC Kinneer was assigned as the Mobilization and Readiness Division Chief, PA Army National Guard G3, in October 2019 and served in that capacity until November 2022.
On October 1st, 2022, he assumed command of the 1-104th Cavalry Squadron and is currently serving in that capacity. Additionally, in November of 2022, he assumed his role as the Director of Plans, Training, Operations, and Security at FTIG.
Lieutenant Colonel Kinneer is a graduate of the US Army Airborne School, Infantry Officer Basic Course, Stryker Leaders Course, Maneuver Captains Career Course, US Army Manpower and Force Management Course, Command and General Staff College, Defense Institute of Security Assistance Management, Advanced Operations Course, and The Functional Area 57 Simulations Operations Course.
Lieutenant Colonel Kinneer is married to Mrs. Katy Matulay, and they have a white boxer named Zoey.
