Deputy Director Army Hypersonic Project Office US Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO)

Currently serving as Deputy Director (Acting) of the Army Hypersonic Project Office, Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. In this position, Ms. Sommer is responsible for leading the dedicated professionals developing the hypersonic capability and prototype Long Range Hypersonics Weapon system. She provides executive leadership on all matters pertaining to the Long Range Hypersonic Weapon acquisition; contract administration; logistics and materiel readiness; installation modification and environmental assessment; the acquisition workforce; and the defense industrial base. Ms. Sommer most recently served as Deputy to the Deputy Director, Army Hypersonic Project Office, Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Previous assignments include Director, Systems Engineering Directorate, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC) Technical Center and Director, Test and Evaluation, Cruise Missile Defense Systems Project Office (CMDS PO). Ms. Sommer has more than 18 years of professional experience in a range of leadership roles in the government, private industry, and non-profit organizations. She began her career as a defense contractor and joined the government workforce with the Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation and Missile Center in 2010. In this position, she supported multiple programs to include the ACAT 1D Army Integrated Air and Missile Defense Systems (AIAMD) PO and the ACAT 1C Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2-Intercept (IFPC Inc 2-I) Product Office (PdO), prior to joining the CMDS PO. Ms. Sommer’s career accomplishments include two developmental assignments. Supporting AIAMD PO, she served as the Department of the Army Systems Coordinator in Washington, DC. Supporting CMDS PO, she served as the Acting Deputy Product Manager for the IFPC Inc 2-I PdO. Ms. Sommer graduated from Athens State University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. She graduated from Webster University with a Masters of Arts in Management and Leadership in May 2020. Ms. Sommer is a member of the Army Acquisition Core and is level III certified in Test and Evaluation. She is also level III certified in Engineering and level I certified in Program Management. She achieved advanced level in the Civilian Education System in April 2019. She is Office of Secretary of Defense Joint Services board certified to fill a Key Leadership Position as Chief Developmental Tester. Ms. Sommer is a recent graduate of the Defense Acquisition University Senior Service College Fellowship program. Ms. Sommer has a husband of 23 years, Nathanael, four children, and six grandchildren. She is active in her local church and serves on the Board of Directors for the non-profit organization Safe Harbor Youth. She is a mentor to youth and
