Dr. Gregory Scofield is the Deputy Directory of the Purdue Applied Research Institute’s Hypersonics Laboratory. As part of his responsibilities, Dr. Scofield oversees the Hypersonics Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center. His research focuses on the manufacturing and testing of high temperature materials used in hypersonic applications. Dr. Scofield currently oversees research programs focused on the development of additive manufacturing capabilities for RF window materials and ultra-high-temperature-ceramics, as well as the development of novel joining techniques for mating dissimilar materials used in thermal protection systems of hypersonic vehicles. Dr. Scofield completed both his B.S. and Ph.D. in materials science and engineering at Purdue University where his research focused on chemomechanical behavior of SiC-based ceramic composite materials, investigating environmental influence on high temperature failure of ceramic composites. Prior to his time at the Purdue Applied Research Institute, Dr. Scofield spent 6 years in the gas turbine industry studying the manufacturing and performance of ceramic matrix composites and environmental barrier coatings.
