Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Clifton

Commander, 4-133D Field Artillery Regiment (HIMARS) US Army

LTC Timothy J. Clifton (TJ) is a native of Fredericksburg, Texas. He enlisted into the Army in 1996 and attended Basic Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After four years of active service, he joined the Texas Army National Guard. He deployed with the 449th PSD in 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and then with the 36th Infantry Division to Kosovo in 2005-2006 in support of Operation Enduing Freedom (OEF). In 2008 he commissioned through the Texas Army National Guard’s Officer Candidate School program after twelve years of enlisted service.

Upon completion of Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC) in 2009, TJ was selected as a Platoon Leader for Headquarters and Headquarters Battery 1st Battalion, 133rd Field Artillery Battalion, and deployed to Iraq (OIF). Upon return he took command of Battery C, 4th Battalion, 133rd Field Artillery in January 2011. He was then selected to deploy with the Security Forces Assistance Team (SFAT) to Afghanistan in 2012-2013 (OEF) and returned to be assigned to the 36th Infantry Division’s G1 as the Mobilization Officer until 2016. Following that assignment, he moved on to become the Chief of Operations for the 36th Infantry Division from 2016-2018. He then served as the Executive Officer for 4th Battalion, 133rd Field Artillery in 2018, deploying once again in support of Operation Spartan Shield and Operation Inherent Resolve (OSS/OIR) 2019-2020. After deployment he served as the Secretary of Joint Staff and then was assigned as the 36th DIVARTY S-3 from 2021-2023. LTC Clifton assumed command of 4-133rd Field Artillery Regiment in June of 2023 and in January 2024 deployed the first National Guard HIMARS battalion in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve the unit returned from theater in November 2024.

LTC Clifton earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, a Master of Business Administration from Trident University and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education at Abilene Christian University in Organizational Leadership and Conflict Resolution. He is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Field Artillery Captain Career Course, Human Resources Management Qualification Course, Army Command and General Staff Officer Course.

LTC Clifton resides in Kyle, Texas with his wife Stephanie and their children TJ, Natalie, Penelope, and Amelia, as well as their two dogs Gypsy and Maggie.
