Directorate at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He received a commission in the Field Artillery in 2001.
His first duty assignment was with 3-7 Field Artillery, 25th Infantry Division. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2004 and redeployed as part of CTF Thunder.
His follow-on assignment was with 1-41 Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He assumed command of B/1-41 Field Artillery during that deployment.
He served at JMRC as a fire support and firing battery OC/T from 2007-2009. From 2009 -2010 he was a small group instructor at the Field Artillery Advanced Course at the Fires Center of Excellence. He took command of C/1-30th Field Artillery later that year.
He served as a BN XO and BDE S-3 for 2-2 Field Artillery and 428 Field Artillery Brigade before becoming an OC/T at the Mission Command Training Program. He served as the J35 for the Office of Security Cooperation-Iraq from 2016 to 2017 supporting long term security cooperation programs.
He served as the Professor of Military Science at Fort Valley State University from 2018 to 2019. He assumed command of 3-358 Field Artillery in 2019. In 2021 he served as G3 of First Army Division West where he managed mobilization operations of COMPO
COL Perez has a bachelors degree in Rhetoric from the University of California Berkeley, a Masters in International Relations from the University of Oklahoma, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, Parachutists Wings, and Air Assault Wings.
He is married to Elizabeth. They have three children- Brogan, Braddock, and Briar.
