Mr. Carl A. Poppe

Director, Business Development (Artillery) Hanwha Defense USA

Carl is the Director for Business Development, specializing in Artillery Systems, responsible for generating opportunities and interest in Hanwha’s multiple artillery systems, energetics, and other land platforms while managing stakeholder relations. Carl joined Hanwha USA in 2022.

Prior to joining Hanwha USA, Carl completed a 26 year career as a US Army Field Artillerymen. Carl’s last position in uniform was as the Army Capability Manager for Brigade Combat Teams – Fires from 2020 to 2022. In that capacity Carl managed the Army’s cannon artillery portfolio along with relations between operational units, Program Managers, Program Executive Officers, and Industry to meet the needs and requirements of the operational forces and institutional training base.

Carl led at all levels in the Army from the platoon through battalion command with experience in light, mechanized, airborne, and air assault artillery units during his career. Carl completed combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan executing traditional artillery missions, as well as police training and coordinating with international provincial reconstruction teams. Carl’s career encompassed a tour with the Joint Staff performing Global Force Management and as a Tactical Officer and aide-de-camp for the Superintendent at the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point. Carl served as Fire Support Officer from the brigade up to the Corps levels and even led the Fires Center of Excellence Directorate of Doctrine and Training Development.

Carl holds a Bachelor’s of Science of USMA (1996), a Masters of Arts from Long Island University for Leadership Development and Counseling (2004), and a Master’s of Arts in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, PA (2019).

Carl is originally from Raymore. Missouri, and is married to Sarah Poppe, an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. They have three children, including a son serving as an Infantry Officer in the US Army.
