Arun Vemury is the Senior Advisor for Biometrics and Identity Technologies at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Science and Technology Directorate. DHS is among the largest users of advanced biometric and identity technologies in the world. This means, Arun must often examine some of the Department’s most challenging problems and develop practical approaches and solutions that will work in complex policy, legal, and operational landscapes. In this role, Arun provides leadership and guidance to develop and evaluate new cutting-edge and cost-effective biometric, identity, and privacy-enhancing technologies and capabilities. Arun is responsible for anticipating future needs, setting research agendas, and coordinating international subject matter experts' activities to close gaps in knowledge and capabilities. Arun has won many U.S. Government and industry awards, co-authored multiple influential scientific papers, and been awarded multiple U.S. patents. Arun is a firm believer that technology should work well for all people, and he confidently leads his team's research efforts toward creating transformative and empowering solutions through technological innovations.
