Lieutenant General (Ret.) Antonio Aguto

Lieutenant General Tony Aguto (Retired) is the founder of Global Strategies and Consulting, LLC which is focused on Ukraine-Russia, NATO and the Trans-Atlantic Relationship, Training, Global Logistics and Leadership. He recently retired from the US Army after 36+ years of Service, most recently serving in the United States European Command as the Commanding General of the Security Assistance Group Ukraine (SAGU) and NATO Security Assistance and Training Ukraine (NSATU).

Tony has spent his career as a strategic planner, expert trainer and commander. With nearly 14 years on the European continent, Tony is an expert in military readiness, coalition building, navigating U.S. and NATO Defense Policy, and integrating Technology in today’s complex and demanding environment.

Throughout his 36 year military career, Tony commanded at all levels from Lieutenant to General. A 1988 graduate from the United States Military Academy he has directed the Army’s Training Centers in the US and overseas, while assisting our Eastern European Allies in developing their readiness and training centers in Ukraine, Romania and Georgia. As a strategist, Tony has served in key operational and strategic planning roles, including at the Pentagon’s Joint Staff, Forces Command, and in Europe. Tony’s leadership in combat adds invaluable perspective to his overall approach to leadership and problem solving, ensuring that his decisions are rooted in real-world experience.

During his most recent assignment as the commanding general for the Security Assistance Group Ukraine (SAGU), he was responsible for planning, synchronization and delivery of multi-billion dollar security force assistance packages across a multinational Coalition of over 50 Nations. His responsibilities not only involved managing large-scale logistics and operations but also navigating a multifaceted geopolitical landscape and fostering collaboration with sometimes competing interests. Working closely with Pentagon officials, Congressional leaders, and other policymakers he ensured alignment of efforts across diverse stakeholders in a very complex environment. He partnered with industry and government leaders to integrate innovative technologies into military operations focused on improving operational efficiency and enhancing Ukraine's defense capabilities. This involved navigating the intersection of defense technology, cyber security, logistics, and military tactics while addressing the evolving nature of warfare in the 21st Century.

Tony’s education includes a BS in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Military Academy in NY and a MS in National Security Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, RI. He and his wife Melanie reside in North Carolina where they spend their time rescuing and caring for animals and volunteering at local shelters.
