Patrick Doherty is the Executive Director, Air Force Operations/Strategic Marketing & Programs. He leads 9 field offices acrossthe US that engage with customers on program development, requirements, operational concepts across the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Fixed-Wing portfolio. His team supports influencing and shaping strategy inputs, operational analysis, and field office services to the US Air Force and Combatant Commands. Doherty previously was the Director of Fixed-Wing Integrated Systems and San Antonio Field Office Lead Executive, leading cross-division and cross-platform collaborative efforts across BDS, ensuring Boeing is the preferred solution for family of systems approach to future capabilities, to include Autonomous Collaborative Platforms. He also provided Field Office support to Air Education and Training Command regarding T-7A Advanced Pilot Training System and its future derivatives.Prior to Boeing, Doherty transitioned from a successful 33-year US Air Force career at the rank of Major General and command pilot, starting as a B-52 Navigator and a F-15E fighter pilot with more than 4,000 flight hours and 339 combat hours in bombers, fighters, and training aircraft. He commanded the world famous 4th Fighter Wing, one of only two dual-role operational and training flying wings in the USAF. He also commanded USAF’s premier technical training wing for maintenance, civil engineers, explosive ordinance and logistical professionals at Sheppard AFB for the USAF and the Department of Defense.
Doherty also led at the Deputy Combined Air Operations Center Director providing operational Command and Control for coalition and joint air and space operations. His last two assignments allowed him to serve as the 19th Air Force Commander at Randolph AFB, AETC leading all Air Force aircrew flight training and overseeing over 50% of the USAF’s flying hour program in 27 different type of aircraft, producing over 32,000 graduates a year. Doherty’s last job in the Air Force was being the Director of Planning, Programming, Requirements, and Analysis for Air Combat Command leading over half of the USAF’s combat air force portfolio--responsible for planning and programming $60 billion annually for a force of 146,000 personnel and 2,800 aircraft, supporting 10 unified commands and USNORAD. He was also responsible for the Combat Air Forces’ weapons systems acquisition, modernization, sustainment, and test involving over 140 programs and the warfighting analysis and concepts at the operational level of war—leading a staff of 25 divisions and over 700 personnel.
Doherty is a distinguished graduate of both Undergraduate Navigator and Pilot Training, earning AETC’s Commanders’ Trophy as the top graduate of pilot training. A distinguished combat aviator, Doherty earned the Distinguished Flying Cross w/ Valor and Top F-15E pilot at 4FW in 2003 for his actions in combat. He was also a graduate of the U.S. Army’s School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) program and the U.S. Naval War College. He has three Masters Degrees spanning Aerospace Management to Military Art and Science to National Security and Strategic Studies.
