Lieutenant Colonel Kevin “Rowdy” Murphy

Commander, 335 Fighter Squadron US Air Force

Lt Col Kevin Murphy is the Commander, 335th Fighter Squadron, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, NC. In this role, he is responsible for operations of a combat ready squadron of more than 80 F-15E aircrew and support personnel that provide counter air, interdiction, and close air support to combatant commanders worldwide.

Lt Col Murphy entered the United States Air Force in May 2007 as a Distinguished Graduate of the Reserve Officer Training Corps, Texas State University. He has more than 3,000 flight hours and is a graduate of the USAF Weapons Instructor Course, earning the top flyer award in the program. Moreover, Lt Col Murphy has accumulated over 1500 combat hours during six deployments in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and INHERENT RESOLVE. He has served as a squadron Chief of Scheduling, squadron Chief of Safety, and as a liaison officer in a joint operations center in support of counter-insurgency missions during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. As the Chief of Weapons of the 335th Fighter Squadron, Lt Col Murphy was responsible for the training of 74 aircrew, preparing and certifying aircrew who were on the Global Response Force in preparation for operations in United States Indo-Pacific Command, and later for a 181 day contingency deployment to the United States Central Command area-of-responsibility. Prior to his current position, the Lieutenant Colonel Chief, Fighters and Weapons, Secretary of the Air Force, Legislative Liaison in Washington, D.C. In this role, he was responsible for advising and assisting the Department of the Air Force on congressional issues and advocating on behalf of the Department of Defense to Congress.
