Captain Lew Callaway

Strike Aircraft and Weapons Branch Head, OPNAV N98 US Navy

Captain Lew Callaway, a native of Austin, Texas, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He completed flight training in Pensacola, Florida and earned his Naval Flight Officer wings in January 2000.

CAPT Callaway's operational assignments include command of Carrier Air Wing Nine (CVW 9) and Electronic Attack Squadron One Three Nine (VAQ-139), and service with Forward Deployed Naval Force-Japan in the VAQ-136 “Gauntlets.” Captain Callaway deployed to the U.S. Pacific Command and U.S. Central Command areas of responsibility, including the initial combat sorties for Operation Iraqi Freedom and combat sorties supporting operations Enduring Freedom, New Dawn, Freedom Sentinel, and Inherent Resolve.

Shore assignments include tours on the Joint Staff (J8), Chief of Naval Operations Staff (N98), Chief of Naval Personnel Staff (PERS-43), and VAQ-129 Fleet Replacement Squadron instructor and Executive Officer.

Captain Callaway's personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Combat V, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various unit commendations and awards. Captain Callaway assumed the duties of Strike Aircraft and Weapons Branch Head, OPNAV N98 in April 2024.
