Dr. Scott Kasen

Director of Technology, Advanced Technologies Division Austal USA

Scott Kasen leads technology development at Austal USA’s Advanced Technologies division. His expertise spans multiple disciplines, including hypersonics, heat transfer, experimental test activities, material selection, and parametric design modeling and has been an invited speaker at numerous meetings and symposiums. Scott currently directs overall program execution for the Navy-funded Additive Manufacturing (AM) Center of Excellence which is working to accelerate the introduction of AM into the maritime industrial base. He is also Principal Investigator of an ONR Manufacturing Science program and a National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) project, both exploring novel material processing methods for CuNi using AM. He has held Principal Investigator and Lead Engineer roles on DARPA and other ONR efforts and directly participated in or led the development of Navy technologies from TRL 2 through TRL 9. Scott earned a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering (2013) and a B.S. in systems engineering (2001) with a focus on economic systems, both from the University of Virginia.
